Chemistry Tutoring

Maths tutor in Durham, GCSE and A Level

Chemistry rewards understanding the underlying patterns rather than memorising isolated facts. Lessons are built around whatever topic is causing the most difficulty, not a fixed run through the syllabus.

What I cover

GCSE and Combined Science

Available as Triple Science or Combined Science, running from atomic structure and the periodic table through bonding and structure, quantitative chemistry, chemical and energy changes, rates of reaction, organic chemistry, chemical analysis, and the atmosphere and Earth’s resources.

A Level Chemistry

Splits into physical, inorganic and organic chemistry, with the real jump in difficulty coming from being expected to move between all three within the same question rather than from any single topic.

All exam boards: AQA, Edexcel, OCR and WJEC.

Where marks are usually lost

Quantitative chemistry, mole calculations, ratios, concentrations, is where most students get stuck. Not because the maths itself is difficult, but because it’s presented in chemistry notation they haven’t connected to the arithmetic underneath it. It’s the same kind of translation problem as physics, in a different subject.
